Hi, I’m Nam – your private tour guide in Hanoi, Vietnam.
I’m a full Licensed English-speaking tour guide- working full-time since 2010
✦ I’m 100% VIET. I was born and raised in Hanoi but live in a rural village about 1.5 drive from Hanoi. I decided to left Hanoi after 20 years of living in the city after having my first child.
I have a wide range of knowledge about Vietnamese culture, way of living, local spots, tourist attractions, food, etc. I have made over 20 travel itineraries for the North of Vietnam, which covers the major sites in Bangkok, such as history, culture, markets, off-the-beaten track, heritage sites, Vietnamese food, or a combination of everything in a day trip.
I only offer private custom tours with flexible itineraries for each group, based on what you love to do. Your activities and things to do based on your preferences and you will travel at your own pace and focus on things that you would love to do. That’s why I am here to help.

I arrived in Hai Phong this past Thursday and I had the best travel guide Nam Van Nguyen in the whole country. He asks what do you want to do and he willl put agenda together before you arrive he said in communication with up to the day I landed and he doesn’t cut corners.
David is on time, informative, very personal it seems like I have known him for years.
I had a mishap and had to go to the dentist the morning before our tour David kindly took me and translated and stayed with me for hours. I had to go back on a different day and we went after along day in Hanoi we arrived to the dentist office around 5pm and didn’t leave until about 10:30pm.
Now how many companies will care about your wellbeing and he didn’t complain or ask for and additional funds but being the person I am I gave him something extra because he could of just left me high and dry.
I have to go back one more time and he told me I’d I need him to let him know and he would go back with me now if that’s not customer service what is.
Lastly if you don’t want to do all the tourist things he will arrange different things for you to do.
Lunches, tickets, driver, gas and rolls where all include into the price.
He does all of Vietnam daily, overnight, weekends, weeks, and month tours.
If you plan on travel to Vietnam please reach out to him.
David has been our guide in both Hanoi and Ninh Binh. He is really good at telling about the history, the Vietnamese culture, knows a lot about everything and could answer all our questions. Afterwards he helped us with ideas and good places when we were travelling further down to the middle and south of Vietnam. We would contact David again when/if we come back and we definitely, recommend him as a tour guide.
David aka Nam is a very helpful and nice guide, always looking for best solutions. Fluent in English, he has a great knowledge and understanding of his country. Responsive and transparent, he made our trip to Cat Ba Bay a successful story, all in line with our expectations and agreements
I contacted Nam due to my interest in visiting a rice farm while in Northern Vietnam. Ultimately, David led us on private tours of the Old Quarter in Hanoi, Toan’s Rice Farm outside of Hanoi, and Ninh Binh. He also arranged a private tour of the Ben Tre area of Saigon for after we left Northern Vietnam. He customized everything to cater to our interests and jet-lagged states. David was responsive in communications with us through WhatsApp prior to, during and after our visit to Hanoi. The result was a well-orchestrated yet flexible three full days in Northern Vietnam with no surprises, reduced stress and wonderful memories.
The Rice Farm Tour was a highlight of our vacation. Wearing provided protective gear, we braved the hot and rainy weather to help transplant rice plants into the wet rice fields. Afterwards, we returned to Toan’s farm home, showered and were privileged to have one of our favorite meals in Vietnam. We experienced how rice farmers relax after working hard in the fields with a high-tech massage chair which rubbed and soothed from head to toe. The visit ended with a motorbike tour of the countryside to see all the local animals and trees and how life is in the countryside.
David was very helpful in 1) answering questions that I was stumped by prior to arriving in Vietnam, 2) solving problems that arose during our visit, and 3) providing good luck with the weather. He helped us get the most appropriate phone plan for our needs. Also, he worked hard at trying to fit in a trip to Sapa during our stay, which we didn’t have enough time for. He pointed out options that I hadn’t thought of or was aware of.
Vietnam was a tricky trip to plan due to 1) my being a non-native as well as 2) there being limited fresh info due to the country only recently opening back up post-Covid. For both those reasons and more, I recommend David as your guide while visiting Northern Vietnam and beyond. He will take care of you.
Special thanks to David for his hard work, personable demeanor and optimistic spirit, and to Toan and her family for their hospitality in their home!
We had a lovely morning with a Vietnamese family in their home. They gave us a warm welcome into their home with tea and cookies. We helped prepare spring rolls and then all sat down for lunch with some local delicacies. Also had chicken, beef and noodles. We then walked to the local temple and drank tea with the local care takers of the temple. Lovely family and they made us feel welcome.
